A few weeks ago I wouldn't have known Markdown from JSON, and now I'm finding myself asking completely different questions about AI companions, governance, trust and responsibility. Quite simply, I just think as writers, we have a new audience. It used to be the case that we would write a few bits of metadata to give context for a search engine, but if you're going to explore what I've written via a conversation with Chatty, then I have an obligation to make sure that the message is also written for ChatGPT's side of that conversation.
This may be an oversimplification, but I truly believe this is like having a sign language interpreter interpreting a speech so that a certain audience can understand the message. It's the same message, the same responsibility for the delivery, but different means, languages, and formats to be most effective.
I will confess that I had some joy in posting this on LinkedIn this morning: it's a challenge to the purists to remember that they're not writing for themselves. And they now have a new audience to either support or ignore, at their own peril.
